Project 180’s Residential Program offers up to two years of stable residency, nutritious food, clothing, transportation, help in paying fines that prevent the restoration of driving privileges, cultural opportunities in the community, assistance in finding full-time employment, and more.

This high-impact, long-term program is offered to a limited number of formerly incarcerated men to assist each in changing the trajectory of his life and, by extension, the lives of his family members.

Project 180 partners with the Office of the Public Defender, the State Attorney’s Office, the Florida Department of Corrections Probation Office, and Drug Treatment Court which recommends candidates for residency and provides recovery support and treatment.

What?

Project 180’s comprehensive, whole-life Residential Program is our best opportunity to turn lives around.

Our program assists residents in stabilizing their lives. We offer:

  • Up to two years of full-time, stable residency

  • Assistance in finding full-time employment

  • Matching funds up to $1,000 to pay fees and fines that prevent the restoration of a resident’s driver license

  • $1,000 per resident for health care

  • A ’recovery first" environment

  • Strong emphasis on financial literacy and responsible finance management

  • Introduction to the arts, humanities, and mainstream cultural life

  • Giving back

    VOLUNTEERING & MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES

Our program is designed by a team that includes formerly incarcerated individuals.

Who?

All of our residents are formerly homeless, formerly incarcerated men in active recovery. Many have been diverted to our program instead of going to prison. Each has demonstrated a commitment to changing his life.

No individual is knowingly admitted with a history or record of a crime against a child, a sex crime, arson, or major mental health disorder (except depression and anxiety; bipolar disorder is determined on a case-by-case basis).

Prior to admittance, applicants are interviewed by the Project 180 team and may be vetted by the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Office of the State Attorney and/or Drug Court.

This program has been made possible through the generosity of an Anonymous Donor, Project 180’s Founder’s Circle Members, the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation, Cadence Bank, Carlson Studio Architecture, Carl and Liza Caruso, Community Foundation of Sarasota County, The Cox Family Fund, Covenant Mennonite Fellowship, The Cowles Charitable Trust, The Diane R. & George E. Davis Charitable Fund, The Gardner Family Foundation, GRASP, Gulf Coast Community Foundation, The Heartbeat Foundation, Hudson’s Furniture, IBERIABANK, The Imagine Foundation, The Koski Family Foundation, Mattress Firm, The Palmer Family Irrevocable Trust, Charlotte and Charles Perret, Heather Roberts, The Schiedel Foundation, The Semrod Family Foundation, St. Vincent de Paul Society at Church of the Incarnation, SunTrust Bank Foundation, Clark and Mary Wright, and hundreds of individual donors like you.

When?

The first Residential Program home opened in May, 2018. We are in Phase Three, having leased a second program home and exploring options for a social enterprise.

PHASE ONE (Pre-opening):

Raise funds, establish partnerships.

PHASE TWO

Open and operate first residence. Prepare to open a second residence.

PHASE THREE

Open second six-man residence. Explore options to open a business training school.

PHASE FOUR

Purchase our second home for six formerly incarcerated men in active recovery.

PHASE FIVE

Open a social enterprise to help sustain the Residential Program, lessen dependence on grants and donations, and provide training for new residents.

Where?

Why?

To provide formerly incarcerated men a chance to stabilize themselves, live principled lives in recovery, and join mainstream society.

FEATURING

COMPREHENSIVE

Taking a whole-life approach, Project 180 identifies each man’s needs and works with him to achieve his goals.

ROOM TO GROW

In order to give each individual plenty of privacy and space, our residences are limited to six individuals.

ESSENTIAL NEEDS

Nutritious food and gently used clothing are provided for each resident. Transportation is provided whenever possible to help residents meet their obligations.

RECOVERY

Our residents are dedicated to recovery and adhere to Twelve Step principles. Residents attend Twelve Step meetings on a regular basis.

SUSTAINABILITY PLAN

The residents of the San Francisco-based program after which Project 180 was originally modeled generate over $20 million annually through their business training schools (schools that operate as business enterprises), an indicator that individuals who are justice-involved can be strong economic drivers in their own communities.

At the earliest opportunity, Project 180 will open its first business/training school to lessen our dependence on grants and individual donations.

Project 180 does not seek government funding.

Benefits of business training schools include:

  • Multiple opportunities for marketable job skill training, engagement and advancement: marketing, inventory, ordering, cash control, food safety and sanitation, food preparation, cooking, customer service, sales

  • No initial investment in bricks and mortar. Scale to next level if and when appropriate (catering, underground dining club, bricks and mortar)

  • Medium to high profit potential

  • Source of revenue for the Residential Program

  • A unique foodservice concept in the Manasota area; industry experience

  • Ready-made customer base at farmer’s markets, street fairs, festivals. Non-residential venue

  • Low initial investment

  • Positive public exposure for Project 180’s Mission

Funding

Residents contribute a weekly Program Fee which covers a portion of their program.
